Passion Driven Internet Marketing-Make Money Online by Following Your Passion
The other day, I saw a sales letter that literally made me laugh out loud. I can not find the letter, so I'm only able to summarize what I recall. He talked about the beginning of his Internet marketing career and, if I remember correctly, "The Vortex of Doom." The letter created a visual image of one "guru" that led to two and eventually hundreds all telling him how to make money online. I'm certain many can relate.
I've stated before that my passion is writing, and I only turned to the Internet to make money because my options were limited. I didn't even know the affiliate market existed, which is odd, as I owned a small online writing business just about the time Mike Filsaime released "The Butterfly Marketing Manuscript." Honestly, I didn't spend much time online then; I was far too busy writing, so I was "out of the loop." At the time, I owned a static website and paid someone to do my pay per click advertising, which was quite inexpensive and very productive. Eventually, I had more business than I could handle with two small children. I considered hiring someone, but didn't believe anyone could, or would want to, live up to my perfectionist standards, so I closed it down.
Despite spending a great deal of time online in the intervening years, I was still out of the loop when I decided to return. I honestly thought I could set up shop very much the same. What a surprise it was to find "writers" willing to "write" on the Internet for far less than I could earn waiting tables. I was not willing to do it, so I bought an eBook, which oddly had a gazillion bonuses attached to it, on how to earn money writing online. I still was clueless as to where I bought it until the suggestion to write ads for the affiliate market came up. It looked like a quick and easy means to earn, so I tried it and stopped after I ran through $60.00 in less than an hour. I couldn't believe it. I was paying less than a dime per click in 2003, so I did the search that landed me in the "Vortex of Doom," which I only escaped when I realized I was conned. I've been "forced" to lower my writing standards, but I will not be forced to lower my ethics, and I won't endorse anything I know isn't worth it, or a marketer I know is lying.
What's so strange is I found the "answer" at the very beginning, but, like so very many, got stuck on information overload with hundreds of "gurus" telling me how to do it. I took a step back, weeded out my in-box to a few internet marketers I knew I could trust, and then I did what one must do to learn--I actually stopped purchasing expensive products and took the time to watch the videos, read the eBooks, and learn, and it worked.
I think one of the reasons so many fail is they get caught up in and then can't "escape" the Internet marketing niche and fail to use their natural talents; follow their own dreams. I'll admit one has to learn, but in the end, you'll succeed if you follow your passion, and your dreams, and enjoy what you're doing.
